Services & prices

Services and prices for every repair I do, in the open. The price you see here is the price you pay, and it is confirmed before any work starts.

Where two prices are shown, the first is for tilt-head mixers (Artisan, Classic, Ultra Power) and the second for bowl-lift mixers (Professional 600, Pro 5 Plus, Pro Line), which take longer to strip down and rebuild.

  • Re-grease and gasket replacementThe most common KitchenAid fault I see. Old grease breaks down, the gasket hardens, and oil starts weeping out under the base and into the bowl.

    $100 any mixer

  • Re-grease, gasket and worm gear replacementBest valueThe most complete service I do: a new worm gear, a new gasket and a full re-grease in one visit. Doing everything at once means one strip-down and costs less than booking repairs separately.

    $150 tilt-head

    $175 bowl-lift

  • Power cord replacementA worn power cord is a safety problem, not just an annoyance. I replace the cord and the strain relief so the lead is properly anchored again.

    $70 tilt-head

    $95 bowl-lift

  • Speed controller replacementWhen the mixer only runs flat out, ignores the speed dial, or will not switch off, the speed controller has failed.

    $125 tilt-head

    $150 bowl-lift

  • DiagnosticsFor mixers that do not match any of the symptoms above. I find the fault, tell you what it needs and what it will cost, and you decide from there.

    $40 any mixer

Repair it, or replace it?

A KitchenAid is one of the few appliances built to be opened up and serviced. Here is the honest comparison.

Worth knowing before you buy new

The mixer you have is probably better built than the one in the store

KitchenAid has changed the inside of its newer stand mixers to hold the price down. From what I see on the bench, the result is a machine that is less robust than the older generation, and when a newer one does fail, the parts that go are the expensive ones, so it costs more to repair.

An older KitchenAid that has been cleaned out, re-greased and given a new worm gear is a sturdier machine than a new one at the same price. That is the main reason I say repair it.

Repair it

$100 to $150

Most faults I see, on a tilt-head mixer. On a bowl-lift it is $100 to $175. Cleaned out, re-greased, new gear or gasket where needed, test run, and back in 2 to 3 business days. The mixer you already know, working the way it did new.

Replace it

about $380 to $630

For a new Classic, Artisan or Artisan Plus in Canada; a new bowl-lift is about $400 to $640. Plus a trip to the store, and a mixer that was built to be repaired going in the bin.

Not sure which yours is? The $40 diagnostic gets you a straight answer, and if the mixer is genuinely not worth repairing, that is all you pay.
